Gwalior : Traditional Indian Kitchen

Nestled in the heart of Tiverton at 8 Lowman Green, Gwalior: Traditional Indian Kitchen brings the vibrant flavors of India to Devon with an atmosphere that feels as authentic as the food. Whether you’re looking for a hearty lunch, a satisfying dinner, or a solo dining escape, this spot checks all the boxes with its diverse offerings and cozy yet lively vibe.

Walking in, the aroma alone is enough to tell you you're in for something special. Gwalior doesn't just serve food-it delivers a culinary experience rooted in tradition but crafted for today’s tastes. The décor leans toward minimalistic Indian charm, and with options for dine-in, takeaway, and no-contact delivery, it’s clear they understand how people want to eat now-flexible and convenient without compromising quality.

One dish that stands out right away is the Butter Chicken-a creamy, spiced masterpiece that balances sweetness with rich tomato undertones. It’s the kind of comfort food that lingers in your mind long after the last bite. If you’re into variety, the Thali is your go-to-it’s a platter that lets you sample multiple flavors at once, often including lentils, rice, roti, vegetables, and your choice of curry. It’s ideal for both newcomers to Indian cuisine and longtime fans who want it all in one sitting.

Now, if you're craving something bold and fragrant, don’t miss the Hyderabadi Dum Biryani. The slow-cooked rice infused with saffron, spices, and marinated chicken is layered and sealed with dough to trap the aromas. It arrives at your table with an intoxicating fragrance and is typically served with raita (yogurt sauce) to balance the heat. For those leaning toward the classics, the Chicken Biryani here hits all the right notes-fluffy, flavorful, and spicy without being overwhelming.

As a little something on the side, the crispy Papadum is perfect for dipping or munching on while you wait. And then there’s the Karahi, a robust curry cooked in a thick, iron wok-like vessel that intensifies the flavors-choose lamb or chicken, both are stellar. Surprisingly, the menu also includes Rendang, a nod to broader South Asian influences. Slow-cooked beef with coconut and chili, it’s rich, slightly smoky, and incredibly satisfying.

When it comes to drinks, Gwalior does more than just your average mango lassi. The restaurant serves alcohol, cocktails, wine, and even beer, catering to diners who want to pair their meal with something stronger. Their Indian-inspired cocktails are especially interesting-think classic mixes with a twist of masala or ginger. And yes, they serve coffee and spirits for a post-meal wind-down if you're not quite ready to leave.

One of the things I personally appreciate is that they also cater to late-night cravings. So whether it’s an evening catch-up with friends or a solo curry fix after hours, they’ve got you covered. Small plates are available too, which is perfect if you’re not up for a full meal but still want a flavorful bite. The Buffet Chicken Fries and Dirty Fries with Cheese are also worth mentioning-an Indian spin on pub favorites that work brilliantly with a cold beer.

Accessibility and service are on point as well. The venue includes a toilet, offers kerbside pickup, and no-contact delivery, which has become a huge plus for a lot of diners lately. The staff are welcoming and happy to guide you if you’re unsure what to order, especially if you're new to Indian cuisine.

Gwalior is also quite popular for both lunch and dinner, and it’s easy to see why. The balance between spice, texture, and authenticity makes this place more than just another curry house. It’s a celebration of Indian cuisine in all its richness and warmth, with a menu that accommodates both the traditionalist and the curious diner. Whether you’re popping in for a quick bite, picking up takeaway, or settling down for a long, flavorful meal, there’s always something here to satisfy every craving.

My first time coming in here and never the last for sure! Partner n I decided to come in to celebrate my birthday - the indoor decoration are very stylish colourful and amazing!! Very clean restaurant and staff were friendly and attentive plus the chef who actually check on us and talk to us so so friendly atmosphere. Ofcourse the foood were soooo nice and top notch all served piping hot and quick!! This will be my favourite indian in town now and will start coming here all the time also their cocktails/drinks are cheap too!! Plus the chef who gave us a complimentary ice cream was a big bonus too!! (He didn’t know it was my bday) Sad thing about that night was only one table occupied when we came in (unless due to us coming in at 7.30) but we should use it before we lose it!! I don’t give out reviews as Im fussy but this is definitely 1000% recommended!! Thanks guys

It was our first time dining in and we were not disappointed. The staff went above and beyond too make my sons birthday special. The food was authentic, tasty and genuinely the best we have ever had. My youngest has autism and struggles with trying new food, but he tried a little of everything and loved it. The staff were all very attentive and the atmosphere was warm and welcoming. We look forward to our next visit.
